Sunday School at UBC

UBC offers a wide variety of Sunday School classes. Classes meet at 10:00am on Sunday mornings unless otherwise noted. Take a look below at some of the classes that UBC is offering!

Reaching Out
Knowing that the Millennial Generation is a group who desire action and volunteerism, this class will tie together the self-nurturing aspects of our ministries with the more outwardly focused, helping ministries.  Richard Moore will lead this class.  This class meets in the Library.

Bible Study
The Bible Study class will use a new curriculum called Feasting on the Word which follows the lectionary.  This curriculum is the child of a body of work originally provided for pastors in their sermon preparation from week to week.  With amazing contributors such as Barbara Brown Taylor, this study of the scripture is sure to invigorate the mind and spirit.  David York will teach this class.  This class meets in the Fellowship Hall.

John 21:25
John, verse 21:25 says that if everything Jesus did were written down, the world couldn’t hold all the works. This class seeks Jesus through those books, movies, and art produced by class members or others. The fall film festival movies–14 short subjects each viewable during one class meeting–explore human rights, environmental stewardship, thinking about creativity and the human life cycle. The winter quarter will do tapestry and cloth-weaving based on Exodus. Spring will be devoted to a poetic “recreation” in the Song of Songs. The class members’s work will make a choral reading oratorio. The class also attends lectures, art shows, and movies at UT, mainly about theology, words and stories. Click here to learn more.

GAP
The GAP (Graduates and Young Professionals) group is a collection of young people who are past our college days and are maturing into adulthood, looking for a community of friendship that will encourage us along our spiritual paths.  We gather for fun fellowships periodically, and enjoy each other’s companionship as young people of faith.  This class meets in the Labyrinth Lounge, on the other side of the Fellowship Hall in the basement of the sanctuary.

Toddlers
The Toddler’s Sunday School class uses the Play-n-Worship curriculum that emphasizes repetition of story for learning about the Bible.  It is interactive with music and engages the children with play and dress-up to imitate the characters of the stories they learn.  Kari Taylor teaches this class.  It meets in the Toddler room of the Kid’s Place.

Children
Children ages 4 through fifth grade follow a curriculum called The Way of the Child.  Put together by Companions in Christ, this material leads children to experience God through formative spiritual practices rather than through informative teaching.  It is based on the natural characteristics of children and guides them to experience God with their instinctive wonder, curiosity, awe, openness, and creativity.  Kay Suttle leads the children ages 4 through first grade.  Bill Cox leads the children in second through fifth grades.  These classes meet in the Kid’s Place.

Youth (6th-12th grade)
Led by Anna Taylor (middle school), Michael Evans (high school) and Youth Minister Amelia Fulbright, the Youth Sunday School class is a time for teens to discover more about God, themselves and other people through a variety of Christian practices. Our current curriculum focuses on The Way of the Pilgrim.   This class meets in the UBC Youth Room.

Labyrinth Sunday Encounter (For College Students & Other 20-somethings)
Led by Minister for Students Amelia Fulbright, the Labyrinth Sunday Encounter will focus on Feasting on the Word, where we study the Bible and other ancient spiritual texts to discover meaning and direction for our contemporary lives.  Free lunch provided! This class meets after Sunday worship in the Labyrinth Lounge.
