The Rev. Lee Tredwell

The congregation of University Baptist Church voted in May 2017 to call the Rev. Lee Tredwell to serve as our Intentional Interim Minister. The Rev. Tredwell is helping lead the church through the Intentional Interim process of finding a new pastor.

The Reverend A. Leon (Lee) Tredwell recently received his PhD in Religion and Social Change from Iliff School of Theology. Lee’s dissertation is titled Black, Queer and Blessed:  Toward a Gay Biblical Theology. It pushes the intellectual boundaries of biblical scholarship by advancing the study of “queer” biblical characters. He is currently a Lecturer at the University of Colorado – Boulder where he teaches courses in Charismatic and 21st Century Leadership. Lee is also an Adjunct Professor at Iliff where he teaches African American Preaching.

Lee was re-ordained at Calvary Baptist Church of Denver in August of 2016 as an openly “queer” black male. Additionally he led a three week summer forum, enhancing Calvary’s congregational biblical understanding of their Welcoming and Affirming Statement.

Lee is the father of three adult children and grandfather of four.
