Minister of Music and Outreach

University Baptist Church
Austin, Texas

The University Baptist Church (UBC) seeks a Minister of Music and Outreach who can lead us in creatively awakening our awareness and exploring the musical expression of God’s love in our lives. UBC (ABCUSA, Alliance of Baptists) is an historic and progressive church adjacent to the University of Texas (UT) in Austin, the “Live Music Capital of the World”!

The Minister of Music and Outreach will lead music, worship, and outreach as well as perform on the organ and piano for a small yet diverse multi-generational congregation. UBC holds one worship service a week and special services throughout the year. Worship at UBC is modern liturgical, follows the Christian lectionary calendar, and enjoys a broad musical repertoire. UBC ministers actively in a unique urban environment in one of America’s most dynamic cities and is proud to be a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming church of all sexual/gender identities and races.

UBC’s music ministry is vibrant and growing. It consists of a Chancel Choir of 20+ members, including six paid staff singers, and a seasonal children’s choir and handbell ensemble. Recently the Chancel Choir has performed Schubert’s Mass in G and Faure’s Requiem as well as making an appearance at Austin’s “Trail of Lights” and the 47th annual session of the American Baptist Churches of the South. The church has a three octave set of Schulmerich handbells, two pianos, and a 50 Rank Otto Hoffman Pipe Organ installed in 1961. The music ministry enjoys hosting visiting musicians for concerts and events, most recently welcoming St. Martin’s Voices from St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London, for a joint concert in 2016.
