Open Circle
The Open Circle serves as a ministry and outreach to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transsexual (GLBT) community within and outside of University Baptist Church. Our unity in Christ enables and requires us to be open to all persons and to the variety of talents and gifts of God’s people regardless of sexual orientation. It is through an “Open Circle” that University Baptist Church provides focused ministry and outreach to GLBT and their families both within the Church and in the community at large. Members of the Open Circle share the grace of openness in extending the fellowship of Christ to all persons.
Pride Festival
Every year at Pride Austin, University Baptist Church is represented by members of our Open Circle Group, or University Baptist Church’s GLBT members. We rent a booth for the festival and pass out literature about our church, information about our annual Open Circle retreat in Oct/Nov and give out prizes to people who stop by. We give out T-shirts, bracelets and gift certificates. This is a great opportunity for outreach and we use this chance to let people know about our wonderful church. Everyone is invited to help, whether you are gay or non-gay. If you are interested, please contact Kris White. Go to www.pridetexas.org for more information.
Annual Gay and Lesbian Baptist Retreat
Join University Baptist Church for a guided discussion into the abundant life of Christians who just happen to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, and/or transgendered. Sponsored by University Baptist Church, the Open Circle Gay and Lesbian Baptist Retreat is an ecumenical event, open to all faiths. If you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, or straight, this retreat is for you. The Annual Gay and Lesbian Baptist Retreat is also a Regional Gathering of the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists (AWAB). See http://www.wabaptists.org for information about AWAB.
