Building Bridges for a Just World

Happy New Year, Y’all!

It’s 2019. It is a new year, new day, new you! It is that time of the year when we evaluate our past year, make commitments for the year to come, jot down goals for new habits and make plans to break old habits.

2019 brings new things for UBC too. As we dig even deeper into the discernment process with Interim Pastor, Daniel, we are exploring who we will be for the future as a church. We are trying on new hats and examining old ones. We are figuring out what the best fit will be for us moving forward as we proclaim love and justice for our corner, city, and our world. It is an exciting time to be a part of UBC and if you’ve been standing on the sidelines lately, now’s a great time to get back into the game! And throughout the month of January, we have an exciting way for you to do just that!

This month, all adult Sunday School classes will be coming together in the Fellowship Hall for a special series: Building Bridges for a Just World. We will be joined by allies in ministry to learn about and explore opportunities for partnering together in causes that speak to the values of our church. Come along as we connect with our partners from around the city and nation! Here is the lineup for the month:

Jan 6: Just Economics: Janis Monger from University United Methodist’s Community Microloan Program

Jan 13: Just Health: Sonja Miller from Texas Freedom Network

Jan 20: Just Partners: Jason Smith from the Alliance of Baptists

Jan 27: Just Eco-care: Mimi Tran and Caroline Garnett from UT’s Campus Environmental Center

As Isaac Newton said, “We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” So come explore how our church can build bridges as we seek to create a more just world this January. Peace!
