University Baptist Church of Austin, Texas, would like to acknowledge that we are meeting on Indigenous land. Moreover, we would like to acknowledge and pay our respects to the Carrizo & Comecrudo, Coahuiltecan, Caddo, Tonkawa, Comanche, Lipan Apache, Alabama-Coushatta, Kickapoo, Tigua Pueblo, and all the American Indian and Indigenous Peoples and communities who are from or have become a part of these lands and territories in Texas, here on Turtle Island.
In recognition of the challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples in Central Texas and globally, our community of faith makes the following commitments:
To be aware of the history of Indigenous people on this land, both the harm that was done in the past and the repercussions of that harm that continue to affect our Indigenous neighbors.
To learn from the Indigenous perspective on “the natural way” in order to deepen our connection with and care for our bodies, our communities, and the land.
To actively learn from and offer material support to Native-led groups in our area.
To stand in solidarity with and amplify the voices of our Native neighbors as they seek systemic change through economic, social, and legal justice.
